Description
Commercial Real Estate Partner
Join and Expand an Established, Thriving Commercial Real Estate Practice
THE OPPORTUNITY
Selzer Gurvitch is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Partner to lead and expand one of the most active transactional real estate practices in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. This is not a build-from-scratch opportunity - you will step into an established, thriving practice with 40+ years of market presence, deep-rooted client relationships spanning generations, and a steady pipeline of sophisticated acquisitions, financings, developments, joint ventures, and leasing matters across Maryland, Virginia, and D.C.
The firm is growing its next generation of leadership, and we are looking for a partner-level attorney ready to take ownership of client relationships, help shape the future direction of the real estate practice group, and play a central role in the firm’s broader growth strategy.
ABOUT THE FIRM
- A Maryland-based commercial law firm with more than 40 years in practice, currently staffed by approximately 26 attorneys and pursuing a strategic growth plan.
- Full-service practice groups spanning Corporate/M&A, Commercial Real Estate, Commercial Lending, Land Use, Litigation, Tax, Trusts & Estates, and Family Law.
- A client base concentrated in closely held businesses, entrepreneurs, real estate investors and developers, and high net worth individuals - many of whom have worked with the firm across multiple generations.
- Newly opened, modern office at 7910 Woodmont Avenue, Fourth Floor, Bethesda, Maryland, reflecting the firm’s continued investment in growth and infrastructure.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Help grow the firm’s commercial real estate practice, with direct ownership of client relationships, transaction strategy, and practice-group direction.
- Represent owners, developers, and lenders across the full lifecycle of commercial real estate transactions: acquisition, financing, development, sale, and leasing.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex real estate transaction documents - purchase and sale agreements, loan documents, development agreements, joint venture agreements, and leases.
- Oversee due diligence, title and survey review, entity formation, governance, and authorization matters.
- Organize and manage closings across multiple, simultaneous transactions.
- Partner with the firm’s Commercial Lending, Corporate/M&A, and Land Use attorneys on transactions that cross practice lines.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop associate talent as the practice continues to grow.\
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and participate in firm-wide business development and strategic planning as the firm transitions to its next generation of leadership.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- An established commercial real estate practitioner (partner-level) with a substantial portable book of business or a demonstrated ability to generate one quickly.
- 10+ years of commercial real estate transactional experience - we will consider strong candidates with a compelling track record slightly outside this range.
- Deep experience representing owners, developers, and/or lenders across acquisitions, financings, developments, joint ventures, and leasing.
- A track record of self-sufficient practice management - comfortable owning client relationships, billing, and practice economics.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, including experience mentoring or supervising junior attorneys and paralegals.
- Active Maryland Bar membership in good standing - Virginia and/or D.C. admission is a plus, not a requirement.
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and a clean disciplinary record.
WHAT THE FIRM OFFERS
- An established, active commercial real estate practice - one of the most active in the region - rather than a practice built from zero.
- A path to equity partnership and a genuine leadership role as the firm bolsters its next generation of attorneys.
- Cross-practice collaboration with Commercial Lending, Corporate/M&A, and Land Use attorneys to source and expand engagements.
- A competitive, transparent compensation structure aligned to practice economics, with the infrastructure to accelerate growth.
- Modern, newly built office space in Bethesda, firm-wide marketing and business development support, and an administrative infrastructure built to scale.
- A collegial, values-driven culture built on honesty, integrity, and long-term client relationships that span multiple generations.
