Description
A new Arizona law firm — organized under the state's Alternative Business Structure (ABS) program — is recruiting its founding attorney. This is the ground floor: we are pre-filing, and Arizona's licensing review typically runs 7–9 months from submission. You would help shape the firm and the application itself, then open with a pipeline already built. We're looking for someone who wants to be there from the start and stay through it.
The model. High-volume, flat-fee legal services built around documents and process. Our core is probate, estate planning, wills and trusts — the work where Arizona clients need real local expertise and where we're building our depth. We also handle business formation and entity work through partner channels, and real estate matters flowing from our partners' Arizona and Texas holdings. As we scale, we'll expand into other document-driven areas where the same approach works.
AI and built workflows do the heavy-lifting — intake, assembly, first drafts — so the attorney's time goes to judgment, review, and sign-off rather than drafting from scratch. Lower cost per matter means genuinely lower prices for clients and more matters handled per attorney hour. This is bread-and-butter work done at scale, not deep bespoke litigation: most matters are standardized and paper-driven, with little to no courtroom appearance.
The role — oversight and production. You'd serve as the firm's compliance counsel, owning the ethics framework, quality bar, and sign-off gate, and you'd also carry the caseload as the producing attorney. The founders fund and run the business, marketing, capital, and technology; you hold all legal judgment. You would not originate business — we bring the matters.
Compensation is variable by design, not a salary. The structure combines a retainer for the compliance role, per-matter compensation for the work you review and sign, a share of fees on complex matters, and a profit share — so your income scales with volume rather than being capped. Equity participation is available. There's a defined path to a full-time role as caseload supports it. Specifics are discussed directly with candidates.
Ideal fit: an attorney with an existing practice who wants to add a substantial, steady stream of work without adding overhead — including attorneys winding down, for whom we'll also discuss transitioning an existing book into the firm on terms that keep paying you. Work from anywhere in Arizona.
Requirements
- Licensed by the State Bar of Arizona and in good standing; spotless disciplinary record (non-negotiable — independently verified before any offer)
- Depth in probate and estate planning (wills, trusts); comfort with business formation and other document-driven work is a plus
- Enthusiastic about using AI and technology to work faster and handle higher volume — you see it as leverage, not a threat. This is the single most important fit factor.
- Comfortable working inside defined workflows and templates rather than bespoke one-offs
- Comfortable with flat-fee, high-volume practice and with variable, production-linked compensation rather than a fixed salary
- Willing to serve as named compliance counsel under Arizona's ABS rules, working with a non-lawyer owner who runs the business side
- Available to commit through the 7–9 month licensing period
- Arizona-based; minimal court appearances expected
