As we complete our transformational Access for All campaign, we're seeking an innovative fundraising leader to help shape the future of philanthropy at one of the nation's leading animal welfare organizations.
The Opportunity
The Senior Director, Emerging Philanthropy is a newly created leadership role responsible for expanding the SF SPCA's relationships with today's most influential philanthropists and philanthropic intermediaries. Reporting to the EVP, Advancement and partnering closely with the Chief Advancement & Strategy Officer, this role will cultivate and steward high-net-worth individuals, family offices, family foundations, donor-advised fund holders, philanthropic advisors, and other emerging giving networks.
This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic, entrepreneurial fundraiser who thrives in sophisticated donor environments and is passionate about connecting transformational philanthropy with life-changing impact for animals.
What You'll Do
Manage a portfolio of 60-80 principal gift prospects and donors capable of making gifts of $100,000+.
Develop and execute customized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for major and principal donors.
Build relationships with ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family offices, philanthropic advisors, community foundations, donor collaboratives, and giving circles.
Serve as the organization's subject matter expert on complex and non-cash gifts, including donor-advised funds (DAFs), charitable trusts, appreciated securities, real estate, retirement assets, and other planned giving vehicles. Partner with Development leadership to grow the principal gifts pipeline and achieve fundraising goals aligned with the organization's strategic priorities.
Monitor emerging trends in philanthropy and recommend innovative fundraising strategies and donor engagement approaches.
Collaborate with executive leadership, Finance, Legal, Programs, and Board members to develop compelling funding opportunities and steward transformational gifts.
10+ years of progressive fundraising experience with a demonstrated record of securing six- and seven-figure gifts.
Expertise in major, principal, planned, or complex gift fundraising.
Experience working with high-net-worth donors, family offices, philanthropic advisors, wealth managers, or similar audiences.
Strong knowledge of donor-advised funds, charitable trusts, gifts of appreciated assets, and other sophisticated giving vehicles.
Exceptional relationship building, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
Experience using fundraising CRM platforms such as Salesforce, Raiser's Edge NXT, or similar systems.

Salary & Benefits
Starting salary is expected to range from $166,000-$184,000, depending on experience. Our comprehensive benefits package includes:
