Global Real Estate Investment Manager | Tokyo

A leading global real estate investment manager is seeking an experienced Compliance Director to lead its Japan compliance function. This is a highly visible leadership role supporting a sophisticated real estate investment platform and partnering closely with senior management across Japan and APAC.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the Japan compliance program across regulated investment advisory and private placement activities.
• Provide strategic compliance advice to senior leadership on regulatory obligations and business initiatives.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess impacts under the Japanese Financial Instruments and Exchange Act (FIEA).
• Conduct compliance risk assessments and execute a risk-based compliance monitoring programme.
• Enhance policies, procedures, controls, and governance frameworks.
• Prepare regulatory and internal compliance reports.
• Deliver compliance training and foster a strong culture of compliance.
• Partner with regional and global compliance stakeholders on cross-border initiatives.
• Support compliance matters across other APAC jurisdictions as required.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of asset management compliance experience.
• Strong knowledge of Japanese Financial Services Agency (FSA) regulations and the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act (FIEA).
• Experience supporting regulated investment management, advisory, and private market activities.
• Exposure to private markets, real estate, or alternative investments preferred.
• Native or fluent Japanese and strong English communication skills.
• Strong stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Bachelor's degree or above.
